More VQF and Burlington

We spent the day at the Vermont Quilt Festival. Ruth Reichel and I went to the show, while Mrs. Aronson went to her class taught by Libby Lehman. I went through the vendors in the morning and saw about half the show. After lunch, we went through the rest of the show. The quilts are amazing. There is one whole hall that is all antiques - most from the 1800s - curated by the Shelburne (I think). Another huge hall is modern quilts - really spectacular.

Barbara Barber, a quilt teacher from Rhode Island, had a Habitat for Humanity quilt on a frame, so Ruth and I spent most of the afternoon quilting on the Habitat quilt and answering people's questions about hand-quilting on a frame. Barbara is also making a giant ball made out of old bras (a fundraiser for breast cancer research), so Ruth and I also had to answer questions about why there was a big box of bras on the table next to the quilt frame.

Ellen and the girls got in late afternoon. I drove them to register for the show and then to the Expo center to buy sweatshirts and to see their grandmother's quilt in the show.

The six of us went to downtown Burlington for dinner at American Flatbread and for ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. We went down to Lake Champlain to watch the sunset and the boats.

We all have classes early tomorrow morning so we're calling it a night.

  • Andrea, Catherine and I went to the Melting Pot last night for fondue for her birthday. Today I made puffed caramel corn.

The devil wears prada was voted down by group as too genX. They want a strong woman book to discuss. Any ideas?
