Eastminster Church Quilt
I'm coordinating a quilt project to make a 50th Anniversary quilt for Eastminster Presbyterian Church. So far, 15 church members are sewing pieces for the quilt top. We met last Saturday for a quilting bee to start sewing the quilt.
The quilt is a special Pentecost quilt that will be hung in our sanctuary on Pentecost Sunday. Four of us (Darlene Bullerdick, Margie Osborn, Carol Schon and I) worked together to design the quilt. The background will mirror the church's stained glass window pattern - vertical rectangles of pink, yellow, and aqua. The Presbyterian Church USA's Pentecost logo (an intertwined flame and dove) will be appliqued over the church windows.
I made 50 packets of strips for the windows and distributed to church members who volunteered to sew on the quilt. When I get the strips back, I'll piece the quilt top. Carol Seamon found the perfect Amish brown fabric at Kean's in Mason for me. I'll use that brown for the wood spacing between the windows. In January, I'll meet with church members again to sew red and white pieces for the applique logo. Our deadline is the church's anniversary - April 22 - when we present the quilt to the church. It will be hung for the first time on Pentecost Sunday in June.
I'll post pictures as the quilt progresses!
