Barbara Barber and Libby Lehman

Last night was the big night at VQF. It began at 7pm with Libby Lehman's lecture. She was hilarious and kept us laughing.

After the lecture, Barbara Barber showed us the completed "bra ball." She had somehow convinced a boy college student to put on a huge bra stuffed with balloons over his t-shirt and to run down the aisle carrying the bra ball. She asked for more donations to the bra ball, and the college boy made a big show of wriggling out of his and adding it to the ball. Then Barbara asked women in the audience to donate theirs, and one quilter got up, whipped off her bra, and threw it onstage. The audience went wild. Barbara passed around a jar for donations to breast cancer research and the jar was full by the end of the night.

We then had show-and-tell, interspersed with Barbara's funny Walmart-Shoppers quilts (complete with cut-out holes for the faces of the quilt-holders). We had so much fun. There were tons of doorprizes. We were hoping to win the big doorprize, a sewing machine, for the girls, but it didn't happen!

Debbie - re book for your group to read. I would recommend Margaret Atwood's The Robber Bride. Her book Alias Grace is also really good, but it is a pretty long book.
