Jane's wonderful St. Francis block!

This beautiful new block for my St. Francis quilt is from my cousin Jane. There is a lot of meaning in this block for both of us, so it will be a really special part of my quilt. Her block symbolizes the line from the prayer, "Where there is doubt, faith."

The cross (PC-USA) has a dove at the top and an open book in the middle. Birds and books - so perfect! :) Jane used fabric from quilt excursions that she and I went on together in Minnesota and Michigan. I love the way that the blue fabric for the dove looks like feathers. Her applique work is exquisite. Jane uses blue, red and yellow - three primary colors - to symbolize that faith was primary in St. Francis' life.

I love my block, Jane! Thank you so much!

  • That block is way cool --- and, you are right --- there is so much symbolism. I am looking forward to seeing this quilt come together --- it will be a challenge to meld all these blocks.
