Quilting vacation
I've been on vacation for a few days and instead of a home improvement project, I decided to concentrate on four quilting projects during my days off. I go back to work on Thursday, so I only have two more days to make some progress. Here's where I am so far:
1. Landscape quilt. Finished! See post below.
2. Camilla's Blue Daisies quilt. I'm half-done with the quilting. I hope to complete this quilt over Labor Day weekend. Will post photo when it is done.
3. Northern Lights quilt - see photo above. I began this quilt in 1996 and took it to Australia with me as a hand-piecing project for the plane (back when we could take scissors, pins and needles on the plane). I finished piecing the top in 2003, and I pin-basted it last year. I never started quilting, though, because I couldn't decide on the best way to quilt it. So, yesterday I pinned up the quilt on a hanging rod in my living room, figuring if I stare at it long enough, I'll decide how I want to quilt it. It looks sort of goofy hanging bunched up on the small rod this way, but it has turned out to be a great way for me to get a perspective on the design and make some decisions. I bought some thread at Joann's today and will start some of the quilting once I've finished Camilla's quilt. I'm going to use a lot of different threads and quilt it in a variety of ways, so it will take me awhile to finish, but at least I know what I'm doing now! I'd like to have it done in time to enter in the 2010 Sauder show.
4. Japanese Showcase quilt. My goal is to get the backing for this quilt pieced this week. It will be a two-sided quilt with a pieced backing that is reflective of the top design in a larger scale. Would be nice if I could get this one basted this week too. :)

I'm envious, too! I have to say, my quilts have yet to speak to/with me --- maybe because I don't give them a chance?! Congratulations on getting so much done!
