The secret lives of quilters
Today Carol, Lisa and I went to Ele's Place 5k race as "Team Linda" to cheer on Linda Kuhlman. She ran her best time to date - under 37 minutes. It was so much fun for us to see Linda run and to root for her. When she crossed the finish line, we felt like we'd all run the race. :) Linda - I am so impressed that you've been training and running races - we are so PROUD of you!
As an added bonus to the race, fellow quilter Terry P.'s son John was running too on Team Gondor, and he was among the top finishers.
[For those of you with Facebook accts, I've posted all the photos there.]
Recently, my quilter friends and I have been enjoying attending a variety of events that each of us is involved with outside of quilting. In addition to Linda's race, here are a few of these "secret lives of quilters":
Carol Seamon plays the oboe in the New Horizons band, and a group of us quilters went to hear her in the band's spring concert. It was great to get to see her perform after we've known about her band for the past couple years now.
Cindy is on the Habitat board, and we quilters have attended the fundraisers she's sponsored. I also attended one of the Habitat open house events, and Cindy gave me a tour of the newly rehab'ed house. It was good to see what the Habitat volunteers had done to make the house into a lovely home for a new family.
Eileen makes designer purses and other fabric items, and several of us visited her booth at the EL Arts Fair this spring. It is so cool that she was juried into the Fair!
Erin Person acted in a play at the Williamston Theater in March, and a group of us went to watch her perform. She did wonderfully, and we can't wait to see her in another play!
Irene sings in the group Sistrum, and we went to First Presbyterian church to hear her concert. And earlier this spring, a group of quilter friends came to watch me perform in the bell choir at Eastminster Presbyterian. I love that we can share our music with our friends.
But wait there's more! Terry Person is playing in a clarinet band, and I hope that a group of us will be able to attend one of their concerts soon. I was sad to miss her spring concert because I was out of town. And... we know that Carol Schon sings ... and Debra makes baskets ... and Lisa creates knitted art and bead art... I'm looking forward to finding out what the next concert or art show or event will be where we'll be wow'ed by more secret lives of quilters. :)
