misc easy quilt patterns for kids' quilts

Recently, my quilting friend Debra and I have been scouting quilt shows for fun and easy patterns for baby quilts and kids' quilts. Below are some of the ones we've found.

I really like the quilt below - a pinwheel combined with a simple bird applique.

Below is a unique take on the cat block pattern - each cat is done in a vegetable fabric. Debra thinks it would be fun to do this one with fish fabric!

The quilt below provides a 6" square that would be great for novelty fabrics, and the right square triangle sashing adds interest and movement, making a lovely pieced background for the floating squares.

The quilt block in the photos below is a rectangle made up of a 6" square and a strip of four 1 1/2" squares - fun for a kid's quilt in bright colors or in kids' novelties in the larger squares.

In the quilt below, the colored rectangles are 2"x3" with 1" black strips - all straight-line piecing but the optical illusion gives the effect of curved shapes.

And below - the same pattern with a white background instead of black.

  • Thanks, Ruth. I, too, seem to get more out of simple patterns.
