Journal quilt project
Happy New Year!
My friend Cindy has challenged a group of us quilters to make journal quilts in 2006. Our friend Pepper Cory made one several years ago. The idea is to make a block every day (or week or month). The resulting quilt will be a record of your year. In a way, the journal quilt is kind of like a blog in fabric.
I know there's no way I 'd make a block every day, so instead my quilt will be blocks representing events this year - gatherings with friends, finishing quilts, holidays, etc. - for a total of 105 six-inch blocks.
I started mine on Dec 30. For the first block I used Japanese Geisha fabric, because Tish and I saw the movie Memoirs of a Geisha that day. On Jan 1, I cut my finger while slicing bread and had to go to Sparrow hospital for stitches. Cindy suggests that I commemorate this "event" by using a sparrow fabric in my Jan 1 block, and Phyllis suggests using blood-red fabric with the sparrow fabric. :) As soon as I can sew again, I'll probably use their suggestions!
