Tews memorial quilt
I made this little quilt as a memorial for Charles Wesley Tews, and I gave it to his wife, June, today at church. Charles went to our church and was a wonderful person. At the funeral service four weeks ago, the minister talked about Charles' hobby of making bird carvings, and some of his carvings were on display. Seeing those and thinking about Charles inspired me to make this quilt.
I mapped out the design in my mind for about a week before I finally started working on it. I wanted to expand on the concept of fused bird circles that I used earlier in my bird calendar quilt, but with some differences. So this time I used two fabrics for a checkerboard background and fused the circles over the seams instead of in the squares. I'd like to play around with this design idea in a few more pieces - maybe with a variety of sizes of circles in a larger quilt. I have a long plane ride to and from Nebraska this week, so I should have plenty of time then to map out new quilt ideas!
