Two more St. Francis blocks

Here are the latest blocks for my St. Francis quilt from Phyllis and Carol Schon.

Phyllis's incredibly beautiful block (the large Mariner's Star) represents "where there is darkness, light." This block is very much Phyllis, because she used batik fabrics in the blues and yellows that she often uses in her own quilts. Also, the precision paper-piecing shows Phyllis's talent in perfect-point piecing - similar to the New York Beauty quilt she made for Carmen. I love it!

Carol's block brings my St. Francis quilt together with the prayer written in italic calligraphy, surrounded by favorite animals and appliqued trillium flowers and leaves. I'm really lucky to get applique from Carol - wow! :) I'm also happy to have the prayer printed out on the quilt itself to help explain how each block fits into the whole.

I have almost all of my blocks, except for the one from Mom (and maybe a couple others - not sure how many others are "in process" still). She's coming here on Tuesday to stay for a week, so we'll work together to piece her block. After I have all my blocks, I'll start putting the blocks together into a quilt top.
