Two concerts and missing Phyllis

Last night I had the joy/dilemma of two concerts I wanted to go to scheduled on the same evening. I managed to make it to both of them. :)

The first concert was the Notre Dame Bell Choir at St. Johns Parish in East Lansing at 7:30pm. At first I didn't think I'd be able to park, but by some amazing luck, a space right around the corner from the church opened up for me (those of you from East Lansing know that this truly is a miracle on a Friday night). I sat in the back and stayed to hear the first four songs. For the first song, the bell choir used mallets on their bells, and they did straight ringing for the next three songs. I saw five people from my bell choir at the concert - will have to ask them if the bell choir did any interesting techniques in the later songs. It was great to be in the audience and watch how the bell choir rang their bell circles and did damping. Wish I could have stayed for the whole concert - maybe next time they're in town I won't be double-booked. [Thank you, Carol, for telling me about this concert!]

After the fourth bell choir song, I ran to my car and drove to the Ten Pound Fiddle for the Pete and Lou Berryman concert that started at 8pm. A nearly full house, but Cindy had saved a seat for me - thanks Cindy! I've been going to Pete & Lou Berryman concerts since the early 1980's, and this was the first one I've gone to without Phyllis. The songs were wonderful as always - like old friends - but I really missed having Phyllis there to sing along to our favorites. At the break, I bought their Big Songbook, and this morning I practiced one of the songs on Gramma's pump organ (Spray Them Gold). It actually sounded "right" played on the pump organ - not unlike Lou's accordian.

Phyllis - we miss you! But I know you're having a great Valentine's Day today in California with Tim and your RinTinTin-dalo Dewey (ain't got no Flufferbo)!
