Bell Choir
Our handbell choir performed today in church. We played a piece called "A Joyful Ring" that includes a middle section that is all special percussion techniques -- finger-damping, plucking, and mardalato. The beginning and ending sections were the usual clear bell-ringing, although our last two notes were mardalato (clunking the bells on the table). It is a really fun piece, and I think it is the best we've ever played. At the end, the congregation clapped! For those of you who are not Presbyterians, let me just say that this never happens - Presbyterians don't clap in church - it is not in our DNA. :)
We also rang the Doxology. I have three different bells to play in the Doxology, and I managed to put down and pick up the right bells at the right time - phewf.
We'll start to learn a new piece of music on Tuesday at bell practice - I can't wait! Yay!

I love to listen to bell choirs ---have gone to a couple of concerts in Williamsburg --- and, many years ago, played very briefly in our bell choir --- couldn't afford the time for both choral and bell choirs. I would say the
clapping indicates your playing caused the congregation to overcome their usual behavior! Good job!
