Northern Christmas
Saturday - arrived in Minnesota in a snow storm.
Sunday - big party at Debbie's with friends and family, including my friends formerly of Michigan - Kathy Cadwallader and family, Stu and Melissa, and Joanne Frankena. Also, five of us from our old Boundary Waters canoe group were together for the first time in a decade (Cindi, Linda, Deb, Debbie and I) - the other three didn't make it to this party - maybe next year!
Monday - the plan was to tour the new Minneapolis library, but unfortunately the fire restoration team showed up and blocked the driveway and took over the house. When they finally left, they said it was the last time they'd be here - phewf. In the evening, we went to Trevor's hockey game and watched him defend as goalie against 37 of 43 shots on goal - yay Trev! We ran into Uncle Harold's relatives on our way out - they'd driven down from up north for the Greenaway game. We had a great walleye dinner at the casino down the road from the ice rink.
Tuesday - Christmas dinner at Debbie's with Soderlunds and traditional Christmas crackers/crowns. Rose and Jack called from Australia, and we emailed our Christmas dinner photos to them - all wearing our crowns.
Wednesday - children's service at church where Catherine sang a duet on a verse of "Go Tell It On the Mountain" (in tune this time!). Then home for a dinner of parsnips, baked corn and burgers - Catherine not thrilled with parsnips. Then opening of the gifts. We had the yule log on TV and Debbie and I both sat in front of the "fire" and knitted late into the night.
Today - Santa brought more loot, including the Wii. I beat Debbie in golf, and she beat me in bowling. Phone calls from Owen's family and from the Schmecks/Hurleys. Now we're off to Barb and Mark's for a Stafford family party.
Merry Christmas to all of you!

so --- what is the "fire restoration team"? did I miss something? We are having lots of rain, rain, and more rain --- it feels more like spring. All of the snow is melting and then, we will get some more! Crazy Michigan weather! Happy New Year! and enjoy all your family time!
