Rereat! 2009

We're at Debra's this weekend for her annual "Rereat!" in Grand Rapids. We started meeting for this annual retreat back in the early 90's - first in Jackson, then in Cadillac, and most recently in GR. [Phyllis - if you're reading this - we really missed you this year! We talked about many "Phyllis memories" this weekend!]

On Friday, we started working on our projects and went to Lakeshore quilt store for a shopping spree. Linda made vegetable lasagna and feta salad for dinner and we toasted many years of friendship. After dinner, we sewed into late into the night. Linda and Carol Schon finished many BE blocks, and I got a good start on my Michigan block for Phyllis. Carol Seamon sewed blocks for Daisy's silent auction quilt.

Today - Saturday - we began the day with body massages and pedicures. Debra arranged for a masseuse to come to the house to give massages and pedicures - pretty wonderful start to the day. I made lunch today (Donnie's chicken teriyaki) and Carol Seamon, Lori and Cindy made a taco bar dinner. We are eating and drinking very well on this retreat. I finished appliqueing the birds on Phyllis' block - now just have to figure out a border to finish it off.

We had a show-and-tell of the fabrics we bought and of some quilts from the WHC show. Daisy, Linda, and I worked on handquilting projects, while Terry cut out fabrics for her charm triangle quilt. Lori sewed her French braid quilt and Debra worked on a quilt for her brother. The two Carols finished some more blocks. Our happy surprise is that Terry decided to stay overnight with us (a first!).

  • Ruth, is "rereat!" a new kind of event or are you missing a T in the title? Either way, it sounds like a lot of fun ;-)

  • Well, "rereat" is correct, isn't it?! The result of a typo and it has stayed with us over the many years!...and, what a great time we have!! I look forward to seeing some of the pictures!

  • Sorry, I missed you all so much! I packed and ready to go until I received a very unwelcome 1 am virus visitor which I'm sure wouldn't have been a welcome guest. I'm on the mend now...just in time for Mon morning...

  • I managed to do some hand quilting as well at Debra's. It was a fun time. I also got the joy of visiting my brother, his wife and four nephews before returning home.
