Stratford Ontario trip

Last weekend, Tish and I took our annual trip to the Stratford Festival in Ontario. This year we saw Music Man, Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet. Music Man was joyful and fun. Romeo and Juliet was also good. It started in modern-day costume but then switched to period costumes (which we were happy to see). Lucy Peacock, one of our favorite Stratford actors, played the nurse. She and the Friar were superb. The production of Hamlet was the best. The actor playing Hamlet was fantastic and the rest were good too (especially the gravediggers).

We shopped at Callan Books, where we go every year to buy new books and to chat with the owner who gives us the scoop on which plays are good this year. This year, he said the top two plays are Hamlet and The Trojan Women (Euripides). He was definitely right about Hamlet!

Here are some photos of our B&B, the Buckingham. The green room is our ensuite twin The Edward Room, and the yellow room is our upstairs parlour.

This is the first time we've stayed in a B&B at Stratford. This one was great - really good food, lovely decor, and within walking distance of all of the theaters. We parked our car on Friday and didn't have to drive again until our trip home.

In addition to our gourmet breakfasts at the Buckingham, we had good meals at the Keystone (the outdoor alley patio is one of our favorites at Stratford - photo of Tish enjoying her British-authentic prawn sandwich), Bentleys, and Tangos. After Hamlet, we had drinks on the outdoor patio at the Parlour. All around, a wonderful trip!
