Cambridge and York

Yesterday, we picked up our rental car, a Honda Jazz, and drove to Cambridge. It was pouring rain when we got there, so we ducked into a pub, the Prince Regent, for lunch. So far, all of the pubs have vegetarian options - yay! I had a cheese and leek burger and Tish had bangers and mash.

The rain let up so we were able to walk through the Cambridge University colleges - Magdalen (C. S. Lewis's), Downing, Christ Church, Kings College, St. Johns and Trinity. We found shops to buy lots of Cambridge Univ stuff for Dad.

Then we drove to York, which took a couple hours longer than expected because of a traffic jam in Doncaster. We were rerouted because our A19 highway was closed. We got to York late, but were able to find a B&B, the Edinburgh Arms, with an ensuite room. We had a good meal at a pub, the Mason Arms, and then walked around York at night.

This morning we toured the York Minster, a huge cathedral from the 12th century. We're now in the York Public Library using their Internet. Then we're headed for the Viking museum, the Yorvik, after which we're driving to Thirsk to see Skeldale House - the James Herriot Museum.

  • This is working great. I am printing the reports for Mom and Dad. We are so jealous. Mom is now crying because of James Herriot, yesterday it was over Judi.
