Northern Lights quilt
I bought the Mickey Lawler hand-painted fabric at the Vermont quilt show in 1993 and began piecing the top in 1996 on my first trip to Australia. The top is pieced mostly by hand (with some straight-line sections by machine). I finished piecing the top in 2003 and basted it a couple years later. My goal is to finish it this year - would be great if I could get it done for Sauder this spring - wish me luck. :)

Looks great so far. You will have to give us all a lesson on how you manage to machine quilt large quilts on your Viking.

I use the "folding instead of rolling" technique that I learned from Sue Nickels when I took her machine-quilting class. It works pretty well even with large quilts. I think it also helps that I use Thermore batts that are thinner than other batts.
But - it would still be nice to have 10"+ of space like Linda's new machine!

I don't think I've seen the Northern Lights quilt --- really like it and the quilting you are doing on it. Good luck with the finishing projects --- I'm trying ---- but always starting more new than I finish! I'm also envying Linda her new machine.

I think you can, I think you can, I think you can . . . I can already see it hung at Sauder. I want to see the whole thing, too. Please post a photo when you're done.
