Quilt A Long 2010

I've been working on the January block, "Sort of Sunflower," for Bonnie's Quilt A Long group this weekend. I started with these two fabrics. Debbie gave me the oranges fabric for Christmas, and Mom gave me the batik for my birthday last year. I thought it would be fun to see if I could combine them in a project.

Here's my first finished block - all hand-pieced. It was fun to have a portable project to take to the concert last night. Now I've got to decide what to do for my second block - put similar colors in the same spots to create an overall sunflower look? Or use the same colors but mix them up? I'm leaning toward the latter, using the original two fabrics and adding some new fabrics. I've only got 1/4 yard of the batik, so might need to use it sparingly throughout this year-long project!

Here's the link to photos of our February block. I'm looking forward to getting the new pattern. Thanks for doing this, Bonnie!

  • Fantastic! I have my templates cut. Maybe today as a reward for taking my online test. I'm procrastinating.....

  • The colors look great together! Are we supposed to make more than one of each block? --- or, is that your choice? Seeing yours, and the ones Bonnie has on her blog, is giving me a nudge to get started --- but the nudge will have to wait, until I get some other things taken care of.

  • Carol - we're supposed to make at least one of each. I think I'll try to make four of this first one so that I can sew together a complete circle block. Not sure if I'll make four of the subsequent months' blocks tho. Linda and Bonnie both made four of the first block too.
