Scottish music
It's our last day in Edinburgh. Yesterday we toured Edinburgh castle and then took the bus to Holyrood Palace which turned out to be closed because Princess Anne is in residence.
Last night we went to Usher Hall to hear traditional Scottish music - fiddles, a bagpipe, drums and Highland dancers. It was great. We stopped in another pub on the way back to our hotel and had pints (me - Belhaven Best 'the cream of Scottish beers' and Tish had a MacEwens). We are trying as many U.K. beers as we can while we're here. It was pretty late when we finally got back to our hotel.
I only get brief chances to go on the Internet, so these blog posts don't tell much - there's so much going on. Goth and punk are still alive and well in Edinburgh (mostly Goth - not so much punk), and the Goth has a Scottish twist - pretty wild. The street musicians in Edinburgh are mostly bagpipers - a little different from London's street musicians.
It is Sunday morning and we're headed for a Presbyterian Kirk service now. After that, we're driving to see Stirling Castle and then north to the Highlands to Inverness.
Ellen - we're staying at Bay View B&B tonight in Inverness!
Phyllis - you'll be interested to know that the pubs in Edinburgh are nonsmoking.
I'm not sure how much Internet access we'll have in the Highlands. I'll be in touch when I get online again.
