Stonehenge

My first post on Stonehenge and Windsor disappeared, so I'm going to try again! Hope this one goes through! [Debbie - have any postcards showed up at your house yet?]

This morning we left our beautiful B&B horse farm in Salisbury. We drove first to Old Sarum to see the historical site/remains of Sarum. Another sunny day - we are so lucky! We got to Sarum before it opened officially and wandered around tourist-free. The most hilarious thing is that lots of locals were there with their dogs - it seems that Sarum is an unofficial dog park, with people bringing their dogs to run free throughout the ruins. We wondered if they cleared out once the site is officially opened at 10am.

We left Sarum and drove to Stonehenge and were lucky to get there before the tourists arrived. We walked around all of Stonehenge taking photos of all angles almost by ourselves. Perfect weather for taking photos. Then we walked up to the barrows. When we returned to Stonehenge, it was packed with hordes of tourists - the tour coaches had arrived en masse.

[Debbie - the whole time we walked around Stonehenge, I kept thinking of 'This is Spinal Tap' and the mini-Stonehenge - had to laugh.]

  • Isn't Stonehenge cool?? Gotta wonder whatever possessed those people to build that thing and once they decided to do it, how they got all those stones in place. It's pretty amazing.
