Windsor Castle

After Stonehenge, we drove to Windsor Castle. It took forever for us to find parking, and when we finally got to the castle, the Queen's flag was flying indicating that she was in residence. They were letting tourists in anyway. When we left the castle, the Queen's flag was replaced with the Union Jack, so it looks like she left while we were in the castle. Once again, we miss a brush with royalty!

Windsor Castle was a good visit - sun still shining and absolutely no lines and very few other tourists. We can't believe how lucky we've been on this trip. The art gallery exhibit was photographs of the Queen from her christening photo through her 80th birthday photos - nicely done and interesting to see the different styles of the photographers. The other part of the gallery had DaVinci sketches (including one of the 'Mary' disciple from the Last Supper - again a connection to Davinci Code...).

We had to see St. George's chapel in Windsor Castle first because it was closing early. We never did find out why it closed early, but when we left, some official-looking men were walking several dogs into the chapel - all shapes, sizes and breeds - only in England.

We're now back in London at Jan's in Cockfosters. We've returned the rental car unscathed (yay!) and have only two more days on our trip. We're hoping to get in a lot more sightseeing in London before we leave - Tower of London, Tate Gallery, trip down the Thames, etc. Tomorrow we're going to Marks & Spencers too.

Lovely dinner tonight at Jan's including Chateau Neuf de Pape wine. I could get spoiled.
